5 Common Hair Transplant Myths

There's nothing scarier to research online than medical procedures. It doesn't take long after googling a simple ailment to be convinced you have a deadly disease that can't be cured. The same is true for hair transplant procedures. There are a lot of myths out there that continue to be passed around even though there is no truth to them at all. Here are five common hair transplant myths and the real answers you're looking for.

Myth No. 1: It Won't Look Natural

One of the reasons FUE is the gold standard in hair restoration is the soft, natural-looking hair line that results from individual follicular units being placed in the problem areas. In addition, choosing a doctor with the experience and skill level of Dr. Foster ensures that the outcome is much more likely to be successful and natural in appearance.

Myth No. 2: Hair Transplants Are Just for Men

According to the American Health Journal, 21 million women are suffering from hair loss. Just because it's not discussed as openly as male hair loss doesn't mean women aren't struggling from this frustrating problem, too. FUE can be very successful for women experiencing hair loss from genetics, medical conditions or cancer treatments.

Myth No. 3: There Will Be Noticeable Scars

As with all surgeries, scars are an inevitable part of the process. However, FUE causes far less noticeable scars than other hair-restoration methods. The scars are typically tiny pin-sized clusters located on the back of the head and often fade with healing.

Myth No. 4: It's Painful

Traditional hair transplants were often painful, but over time technology has advanced and the FUE method of hair transplants is much less painful and invasive. Local anesthetic is used to minimize any pain that may be felt. Many of our patients have reported how surprised they were that the procedure was almost painless for them.

Myth No. 5: Recovery Is Long and Hard

This myth probably continues to be circulated because old methods of hair transplant surgery required weeks of recovery. One of the best things about the FUE method is that recovery is quicker than most people realize. Everyone heals differently, but most patients only need to take a few days off work, and some return to work the next day.
