FUE Hair Restoration: A More Natural Solution

By 35 years old, two-thirds of men in the United States will experience hair loss of some degree. Because it's so common, you've probably heard about hair-loss surgery before - maybe you've even looked into it for yourself - but do you know what the difference is when it comes to traditional methods and FUE, or Follicular Unit Extraction, hair-restoration methods?

Hair-loss treatment has come a long way over the years. FUE hair restoration offers a more natural approach that removes individual hair follicles from a donor site on the back of the head by a highly skilled doctor for a more aesthetically pleasing result that lasts for years. Traditional methods are much more invasive and painful because they remove an entire strip of skin and hair in order to replace missing hair in the problem areas.

How the Procedure Works

The first step of Follicular Unit Extraction begins with the area on the back of the head from which the hair follicles will be removed and cleaned in order to be transplanted to the problem areas. It's first numbed with anesthetic for the patient's comfort, and then follicular units are removed from the donor site. Next, the follicles are inserted into the transplant site, which has been marked to identify where each follicle should be placed. The procedure typically takes six to eight hours depending on the extent of hair loss.

What Type of Hair Loss Does FUE Treat?

The most common type of hair loss treated with FUE is male or female pattern baldness. However, it can also be used to treat various forms of alopecia, widow's peaks, receding hairlines, and even eyebrow and eyelash transplants.
